Roshanak Keyghobadi

Assistant Professor, Farmingdale State College-SUNY

Roshanak Keyghobadi is an award-winning designer, educator, and researcher whose work bridges design practice, pedagogy, and cultural research. As an Assistant Professor of Visual Communications at Farmingdale State College-SUNY, she teaches Graphic Design, Typography, Design Thinking, Interaction Design, and Design Histories, encouraging students to view design as a space for creative exploration, critical inquiry, and meaningful connection.

Roshanak earned her Doctorate in Art and Art Education from Columbia University and holds both MFA and BFA degrees in Graphic Design, along with studies in Visual Communication at Tehran University. With training in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice, she integrates inclusive and cross-cultural perspectives into her teaching and research. Her research investigates contemporary and global design histories, with a focus on Iranian women in graphic design and the decolonization of design narratives. Her writing has appeared in AIGA Voice, Design Observer, and Neshan Magazine, as well as in the anthologies Revealing, Recording, Reflecting and Inner Structures, Outer Rhythms. She has received two AIAP Women in Design Awards for her pioneering research.

Roshanak’s creative practice explores materiality, language, and cultural identity through collage and typography. Her artworks have been exhibited nationally and internationally and featured in Fiber Art Now and The New York Times. Beyond academia, she has contributed to the global design community through work with Graphis Publications, People’s Graphic Design Archive, Letterform Archive, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. She hosts her podcast IWinGD (Iranian Women in Graphic Design) and contributes to The Khatt Chronicles Podcast.
