Jackets and covers for trade books, academic presses, independently published books and more.


4. BOOKS — ENTIRE PACKAGE

The entire design experience of a book, from cover to interior and any other elements.


5. BRANDING — CAMPAIGNS

Full campaigns with multimedia deliverables that can include, print, environmental, packaging, web.


6. BRANDING — COLLABORATIONS

Campaigns that join brands with other brands, artists, organizations or influencers where collaboration partners can add artistic value to a product, expand access to diverse audiences, push industry boundaries, or address social issues.

Campaigns for nonprofit organizations or other associations that speak to the social good and have a call to action. Designs can include all elements of a campaign including advertising, reports, brochures, posters, signs, and art installations.


12. EDITORIAL

Magazine covers and spreads, newspaper layouts, zines and general design for periodicals.


13. ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN

Wayfinding, interior design, architecture and other place-based work.


14. GRAPHIC NOVELS

Design and illustration for a book-length work of fiction or nonfiction that combines narrative storytelling with sequential art.


15. HANDLETTERING

Work featuring drawn letters.


16. ILLUSTRATION

Editorial illustration, standalone illustration design, and invitations.


17. IN-HOUSE

Communication materials created by an in-house team for their employer. This can include any project that can fall into another category as well

Design that informs or celebrates—custom wedding invitations, birth announcements, and greeting cards

Wordmarks and logotypes for any type of client, created in-house or out-of-house.


20. MOTION DESIGN & VIDEO

Design that moves—animated work, commercials and advertisements, documentary, and reels.


21.OUTDOOR/BILLBOARDS

Outdoor communication that can include billboards, bus sides, shelters and mass transit.


22. PACKAGING

Product packaging, including paperboard, glass, plastic, metals, sustainable materials, fabric and other materials.

Any and all sizes—digital and printed. Everything from one-sheet gig posters to PSAs.


24. SELF-PROMOTIONS

Work that promotes your design business or company. Can include client gifts, brochures or seasonal work.


25. SOCIAL MEDIA & CONTENT DESIGN

Design utilized for social channels with visually engaging, purposeful graphics, images, videos, and other multimedia content tailored specifically for social media platforms. Content that is up to 30-seconds.


26. SUSTAINABLE DESIGN

Work that demonstrates creativity with a conscience—design solutions that reduce environmental impact, champion responsible practices, and inspire a more sustainable future.


27. TITLE SEQUENCE DESIGN

Opening visuals that introduce a film, TV show, video game, or any media production, setting the tone and style for what follows--blending graphic design, animation, typography, cinematography, and sound to create a brief but impactful narrative or visual theme that conveys essential information.


29. WEBSITE & APP DESIGN

Website and app design, UX design and digital design of all types.


28. tYPE DESIGN

Fixed systems of alphanumeric characters with specific characteristics to be used.


30. WRITING FOR DESIGN

Entries that use the power of language to shape how we understand, practice, and experience design. It recognizes essays, critiques, stories, and editorial work that offer fresh insights, challenge conventions, or deepen the dialogue around design’s role in culture and our society.
